De Sousa

Erik de Sousa has 7 ha in Avize, Oger, and Cramant; the vines have an average age of 38 years. “ The more natural it is, the better it is” believes De Sousa, and in pursuit of this ideal he has switched to biodynamic cultivation, uses natural yeasts, has lowered his dosages, and has given up filtration. There are also excellent, explanatory back labels.




The Blanc de Blancs Cuvee des Caudalies, barrel-fermented and made from vines of over 50 years, is unquestionably De Sousa’s best wine with its mineral notes, almost orange-like fruit and the long finish to which its name alludes (a caudalie is a French ‘unit of persistence’ for wine) - Andrew Jefford - The New France
