Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2004
La Grande Dame is the pinnacle achievement of this consistently great house. A fitting tribute to one of the legendary pioneers of Champagne, the widow Clicquot. Seven years on lees, it is a blend of 64% Pinot Noir and 36% Chardonnay sourced from the eight Grand Cru villages most favoured by Madame Clicquot in her day. Incredibly complex and fine, it teasingly evolves in the glass revealing more and more layers. At first, white floral, mineral and citrus aromatics from the chardonnay making way for the underlying power and structure of the Pinot. Impressive wine which will continue to develop and improve for many years. It's been six years since the previous release but well worth the wait!
